Video shows some of the areas in the borough hit the hardest.

Mayor Mary-Anna Holden took residents on a tour of some of the hardest-hit spots in Madison during a PSA announcement she recorded that can be viewed at RosentTV's blip.tv station.

Holden warned residents that it is still not safe to play in certain areas with the supersaturated ground throughout Madison. To illustrate the point, she showed a number of areas where trees came down, including Danforth Road, which has since reopened.

Closed on Monday, the library will continue to be closed through at least Wednesday.

“We should have it up and running by the end of the week,” Holden said in the announcement, but noted there was considerable water damage to the flooring.

Throughout the PSA, Holden commended the borough's employees, which have been working not only in Madison, but in nearby municipalities. Holden said the Madison Fire Department has been assisting Parsippany, which was hit very hard by Hurricane Irene.

She also noted that Madison Electric Department Superintendent Michael Piano was working in the field as a lineman, and some retired workers were helping with the recovery effort.

On a bright note, Holden said Madison's businesses were flourishing. Since many other towns were hit much harder than the borough, many people are shopping there because the businesses are open. Holden said downtown is busier than it is during Christmas time.

She said in the PSA that Madison is "one of the few communities that’s open in the area."

Holden also visited with residents and showed homes that were effected by the storm.

She spoke with Madison Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Michael Rossi, who thanked the fire department for helping at .

“The fire department was extremely helpful in getting that under control and maintaining that,” Rossie said in the PSA.

He also said turf has allowed fall athletic teams to practice following the storm when that hasn't been the case in many of the surrounding towns.
