Council Race: Madison Has 'A Choice to Make'

Democrat Ben Wolkowitz and successful GOP write-in John Hoover react to Tuesday's primary results.

Republican candidate John F. Hoover, who to join Councilman Don Links on the ticket for the general election in November thanked his supporters in a statement Wednesday, while Democratic candidate Ben Wolkowitz, who is running with former Councilwoman Astri Baillie, said Madison will have a clear choice to make come November.

Hoover said he was surprised and gratified to have more than 100 people write him in.

"To all my family, friends, colleagues who spread the word and voted, I give my heartfelt thanks," he said. He said he and Links "have a good story to tell, and I am excited for the chance to have the opportunity to represent people of Madison."

Wolkowitz said the campaign will show voters they have a decision to make about the governing body.

"With the primaries over, Astri Baillie and I feel that Madison will have a very clear choice to make regarding the substance and conduct of the Borough Council," Wolkowitz said. "We intend to use the next few months as an opportunity to share our ideas for the future of Madison as well as to discuss our leadership experience and records. Our objective is to ensure that the voters will have the information they need to make a fully informed decision."
