'Hot Dog' Law Vote Pulled

The Borough Council held off on holding a public hearing and vote on an ordinance amending regulations and fees for peddlers and solicitors at its meeting Wednesday.

The proposal called for doubling the fee for an annual mobile food vendor license to $1,000, capping the number of annual mobile food vendor licenses given out each year at three, and adding the borough zoning officer to the location approval and enforcement process.

Officials plan to tweak the proposal, including possibly the way rates would increase for existing vendors, such as the operator of a hot dog cart on Main Street near Waverly Place, Councilman Bob Landrigan said.

The proposal was designed to bring the existing ordinance up to date and protect brick and mortar businesses, officials have said.

Mayor Bob Conley said other aspects of the law, such as whether it would affect the farmer's market, also would be considered.
