Greenhouse Vote Tabled, Gardeners Seek Grants

A hearing on an ordinance to spend $90,000 in Open Space funds is being tabled until a later date while the gardening group seeks grant funds for the structure, Councilman Rob Catalanello announced this week.

He said at Monday's Borough Council meeting the gardeners appreciate the council's support, but asked for the Borough Council to hold off on the measure, and understood that if the grant funding doesn't come through the Open Space funding that was to be used for the project might not still be there.

Paul Alloco, chair of the Parks Advisory Committee, said there are other items that Open Space funding could be used for, such as clearing downed trees in parks and repairing the fountain at .

"I think you're making a wise decision" in tabling the ordinance, he said.

The council approved a separate ordinance to form a 15-member Madison Community Garden Advisory committee to educate the public about community gardening and make recommendations to the borough about how the garden should be operated.
