Gift: Photo of Madison by Lawyer Who Protected It

The current and former Madison mayors took turns reading a proclamation at Monday's Borough Council meeting honoring Madison's longtime attorney Joseph Mezzacca Jr., who died earlier this month after an illness at age 65.

Mezzacca's wife, Barbara, and son, Marc, accepted the proclamation, as well as roses, a borough chair, and a photo of Mezzacca saluting the flag in Hartley Dodge Memorial.

Marc Mezzacca then gave Conley a photograph that his father took of . Mezzacca was known for his photography of Madison, and published annual calendars of his photographs.

"My father, he loved protecting the town legally, but he also loved capturing it through his photography and I hope this token can help everyone remember that," Marc Mezzacca said.

The proclamation noted Mezzacca's work on historic preservation and other legal cases and issues, and said, "Mayors, council members, borough clerks and fellow citizens of the borough of Madison held Joe Mezzacca in high esteem for his genuine sensitivity to the borough's success."
