Madison Democrats Plan Campaign Kick-Off Picnic

Event set for Sunday.

Democratic candidates for Madison Borough Council Maureen Byrne and Jeff Gertler are holding a public campaign kick-off picnic from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at 142 Ridgedale Ave.  

Assemblywoman Mila Jasey, and Assemblyman John McKeon are expected to attend, along with Mayor Bob Conley, Council President Carmela Vitale, Councilman Ben Wolkowitz and Councilwoman Astri Baillie, according to a campaign news release.

"Mila and John have been good friends to Madison these past two years, and we are pleased that they are running again in 2013 and will be joining us on the 15th,” the news release said.

Madison Democratic Committee Chairman Tom Honohan said a suggested donation of $25 per person or $35 per couple is requested of attendees.

Donations can be made at the door or can be sent to Mike Hilgendorff, Treasurer, 16 Carteret Ct., Madison N.J. 07940. Checks should be made out to "The Committee to Elect Byrne and Gertler."

All Madison friends and residents are welcome at the event, Honohan said. 

Byrne is chairman of the Friends of the Madison Public Library and participated in the library's strategic planning effort.  A four-year member of the Madison Downtown Development Commission, she supervised the establishment of the Madison Farmers Market on Waverly Place and now on Green Village Road. Byrne also co-chaired the popular “Taste of Madison” event for the past two years. She has been an active member of the Thursday Morning Club for eight years and served on the committee that successfully raised $2.3 million for the renovation of the Madison Community House.
