Borough Still Cleaning Up Mess From Halloween Snowstorm

The early snowstorm that blew through New Jersey ahead of Halloween weekend had a lasting effect on Madison and many other towns, felling trees, bringing down branches and disrupting electric service to hundreds of thousands.

Borough Public Works personnel are still cleaning up debris, a month and half after the the storm.

Separately, the borough has expanded its participation in shared services by outsourcing animal control services to nearby municipalities.

Carmela Vitale told the Council meeting that the Board of Health has severed its animal control contract with St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center.

There are two new contracts. Starting Jan. 15, Millburn will provide and animal control officer to handle those chores in the borough. Livingston will provide animal shelter facilities for any animals requiring housing.

The contracts are expected to save the borough more than $30,000 annually.
