“Through my experience with Foster Wheeler, I’ve increased my understanding of and experience with two businesses that directly impact Madison’s local government: electric power and waste disposal,” he said. “This experience will assist me in addressing the challenges Madison faces.”

Madison is one of only 10 towns in New Jersey to own its own electric power utility, which has played an important role in Madison’s municipal finances.  Barbato currently serves on the Madison Electric Utility Study Committee.

During his two terms on the council, Barbato served three years as Finance Chair and successfully pushed for several financial management measures, including the Budget Preparation Guidelines and the Long Range Capital Plan, which were in place for many years.

“The subject of municipal finances has been a long-time interest of mine, something which I continue to study,” said Barbato.

While serving on the council, Barbato earned a Certificate in Municipal Government from the Rutgers Center for Government Services.

“The quality of the local government is a key component of Madison’s success and attraction as a great place in which to live and to locate a business,” he said.

Barbato earned law degrees from Fordham University (LLM) and Rutgers University (Juris Doctor), an MBA (Finance and Economics) from Seton Hall University, and a Bachelor of Science from Pennsylvania State University.

He has lived in Madison for 28 years, and his 2 sons graduated from the Madison schools.
