$90K Greenhouse Planned for Community Garden

ADA-compliant greenhouse would be used to cultivate seeds and for educational purposes.

The Rose City, known for its greenhouses when it was a leader in the rose-growing industry, could soon have its own community greenhouse at the fledgling Madison Community Garden—one that would be handicapped-accessible and would be used to cultivate seeds for the garden and for educational purposes, officials said Monday.

The Madison Borough Council unanimously introduced an ordinance that, if approved, would appropriate $90,000 from the Open Space Trust Fund for an Americans With Disabilities Act-compliant greenhouse at the Madison Community Garden.

Another ordinance was introduced that would form a 15-member advisory committee to educate the public about community gardening and make recommendations to the borough about how the garden should be operated.

Councilman Rob Catalanello said the garden, largely created through volunteer efforts, already is an impressive accomplishment for the borough.
