1 Republican, 2 Democrats File for Primary

Esposito does not file by deadline to run in June primary.

With two seats up for grabs in November, two Democrats have filed to be their party's nominees, while Republicans will have only one name--incumbent Don Links--on the primary ballot in June, though the GOP might try to organize a write-in campaign to have a second Republican listed with Links on the ballot in November, officials said.

Links was the only Republican to file by the 4 p.m. Monday deadline, the Borough Clerk's Office said, while former Councilwoman Astri J. Baillie and Benjamin Wolkowitz filed as Democrats.

Republican Councilman Dr. Vincent Esposito, the second council member whose term expires at the end of the year, did not file to run. He is . He denies the charges and continues to serve on the council.

Republicans might try to organize a write-in campaign for a second GOP nominee, said Paul Daly, chairman of the Madison Republican Committee, but he declined to discuss possible candidates.

Links is running for his second three-year term.

Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly reported Links' terms.

Only one candidate? Not even putting up a fight? How disappointing.
