Vehicle Knocks Down Kings Road Signal Pole

Ford Wagon drove up curb of center island at Green Avenue.

A 2000 Ford Wagon traveling west on Kings Road Tuesday evening crossed over the double yellow lines, traveled up the curb of the center island, and knocked down a pedestrian signal pole, Madison police said.

The incident occurred at about 6:20 p.m., according to a Madison police news release.

Wires became detached from the signal device, and the Madison Light Department and Madison Fire Department responded to assist with the cleanup, police said.

The driver, a 73-year-old New Vernon man, refused medical attention and was released at the scene. The driver was issued a summons for careless driving, police said.

A portion of Kings Road was closed off during the investigation and cleanup, according to police.
