UPDATE: Two Men Facing Charges for Alleged Pot Possession

The following arrest information was supplied by the Madison Police Department. It does not indicate convictions.

A drug arrest and DUI charges lead recent activity on the blotter.

Ptl. Ken Shannon arrested David Hocking, 30, of Franklin, on Friday and charged him with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Hocking was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Scott Feuer, 30, also of Franklin, when it was pulled over by Shannon about 10 p.m. at Main Street and Waverly Place for a motor vehicle violation, police said. It was at that point that Shannon determined Hocking was allegedly in possession of narcotics. Hocking was booked at headquarters while Feuer was issued summonses for careless driving, an uninsured vehicle, and a suspended drivers license, police said. They were released pending a mandatory court appearance.

Sgt. Peter Iossa arrested Prushad Patel, 42, of Springfield, on Sunday for allegedly driving under the influence. Iossa initially stopped Patel for a motor vehicle violation on Main Street near Alexander Avenue and determined that he was operating his vehicle under the influence of alcohol, police said. He was taken to headquarters for processing and released to a family member pending a mandatory court appearance. Patel was also issued a summons for failure to maintain a lane.

Ptl. Sean Plumstead arrested Mathias Gomez, 20, of Maplewood, on Sunday at 3 a.m., and charged him with defiant trespassing on the campus of Drew University, police said. Plumstead was contacted by Drew Public Safety who had stopped Gomez on campus. Not a student, Gomez had been directed to leave campus by a Drew officer after he was encountered on campus. A short while later Drew security encountered him again and he was subsequently arrested for defiant trespass, said Madison Police Dept. Lt. Darren Dachisen. He was taken to headquarters for processing and released pending a mandatory court appearance.

Ptl. James Cavezza on Aug. 31 arrested 46-year-old Harrison Sorsor, of Newark, on the strength of a traffic arrest warrant for $114 issued by Madison Municipal Court for failure to appear. Cavezza initially stopped Sorsor on Madison Avenue for a motor vehicle violation, and a computer check on his license uncovered the arrest warrant, police said. Sorsor was processed at headquarters and released after posting bail, and also was issued a summons for failure to inspect his vehicle.

Also on Aug. 31 in the early morning around 2:17 a.m., Sgt. Dennis Lam arrested Christopher Murillo, 26, of Madison, and charged him with driving under the influence. Lam was on patrol when he spotted Murillo’s vehicle on the lawn near 24 Green Ave., police said. After a brief investigation, he determined that Murillo had struck a tree with his vehicle and was allegedly operating his vehicle under the influence of alcohol, police said. No one was injured in the crash, and Murillo was booked at headquarters and released to a family member pending a mandatory court appearance. Murillo also collected a summons for careless driving.

The Madison Police Department, , and responded to 11 medical emergencies during the week. Police investigated four motor vehicle crashes in that time.
