Three-Car Accident Involves Overturned Van

One driver issued summons for failure to stop and yield; Daily Record van was overturned.

A three-car accident at approximately 3:20 a.m. on Wednesday left a Daily Record van overturned and resulted in four people going to the hospital.

Madison police said a 1996 Toyota Camry driven by Ephraim Rene of Newark was making a left turn from Danforth Road onto Park Avenue when he hit the 2007 Ford S34 Daily Record van, which was traveling east on Park Avenue.

The collision overturned the van, which then slid into the left turning lane on Park to come onto Danforth. At that time, the van hit a third car driven by Charles Messina of Livingston.

Madison Acting Fire Chief Lou DeRosa said fire personnel had to cut the windshield out of the van to remove the driver, Angel Rodriguez of Ledgewood.

Madison police said they issued a summons to Rene for failure to stop and yield. All three drivers, and a passenger in Messina's car, were taken to the hospital for injuries and further evaluation.

Police said Ramirez was complaining of pain in his back, while Rodriguez had pain in his elbow and lower arm.

DeRosa said eight Madison fire department members responded to the accident and cleaned up engine and transmission fluids. All three cars were towed from the scene.
