Thieves Steal Brass Letters From Madison Recreation Complex

The letters 'M' and 'D' were taken from a brick wall identifying the building early on June 22.

Police are investigating the theft of the brass letters "M" and "D" from the brick wall identifying the Madison Recreation Complex.

According to police, two people entered the Ridgedale Avenue entrance and pried off the two large custom made letters at about 2:55 a.m. on June 22. Police on Thursday did not release details on the two thieves.

The Madison Recreation Center hopes to just have the letters returned undamaged, police said. The solid brass letters are described as being about 18 inches high and worth several thousands of dollars, police said.

Police are following up on leads and reviewing surveillance footage further to identify the thieves.

Anyone with information regarding the missing letters can contact the Madison Police Department at 973-593-3000.
