The Blotter: Alleged DUI, Underage Alcohol Arrests

Feb. 20 a busy day for Madison lawmen.

had a busy week with a number of alleged charges ranging from driving under the influence to violation of a restraining order. The most recent police blotter shows three arrests on Feb. 20 alone. Read on for details.

At 2:11 a.m. on Feb. 20, Patrolman Matthew Mirabella arrested 24-year-old James Fagan of Bloomsbury, N.J. He charged him with allegedly violating a restraining order issued by Morris County Superior Court. Mirabella had contacted Fagan to come to police headquarters. He was processed and released pending a mandatory court appearance.

Later that early morning, Ptl. Sean McCarthy arrested Victor Jimenez, 25, of Plainfield, N.J. He charged him with driving under the influence. McCarthy was contacted by Drew University Public Safety Officers who stopped Jimenez on campus for allegedly traveling the wrong way on a one-way campus roadway. McCarthy determined that he was driving under the influence of alcohol. He was taken to headquarters for processing and released to a family member pending a mandatory court appearance.

On Feb. 20 at 11:04 p.m., Ptl. James Cavezza arrested Matthew Dudley, 21, of Chatham on an outstanding criminal arrest warrant for failure to appear in Morris County Superior Court. Cavezza stopped the vehicle Dudley was a passenger in near 233 Main Street. Cavezza had prior knowledge of the warrant being issued on Dudley for the failure to appear violation. He was transported to headquarters for processing and released to the Morris County Sheriffs Office Warrant Division.

On Feb. 19 at approximately 9:55 p.m., Cavezza arrested Momoh Bassie, 20, of Howell, N.J. He charged him with alleged underage possession of alcohol. Cavezza stopped Bassie on Park Avenue after he exited a local liquor store to check his proof of age. He determined that he had allegedly purchased alcohol with a friend’s identification. Bassie was transported to headquarters for processing and released pending a mandatory court appearance.

On Feb. 16 at about 1 a.m., Cavezza arrested 19-year-old Andrew Williams of Randolph, N.J. on an outstanding traffic warrant issued by Randolph Municipal Court. Cavezza initially stopped Williams on Kings Road for a motor vehicle equipment violation. He ran a computer check on his name and was alerted that there was a warrant for his arrest. Williams was transported to headquarters for processing and released on bail pending a mandatory court appearance. He was issued a warning for driving with one headlamp.

The Madison Police Department, and responded to approximately 12 medical emergencies during the week. Police investigated six motor vehicle crashes during the week.
