Police Warn of Phone Scammers Pretending to be Borough Employees

Several Madison businesses received fraudulent calls on Thursday.

Madison Police issued an alert Friday after several businesses received fraudulent calls on Thursday in an ongoing and widespread phone scam.

According to police, the callers pretended to be employees of Madison Borough and utility companies in an attempt to scam victims out of money. Some calls appeared to be local numbers and even from the Borough of Madison, police said.

Police advise to never provide financial information over the phone and to report any suspicious calls to the police department.
