After a brief investigation, both individuals where placed under arrest for allegedly committing six car burglaries overnight on Lewis Drive, Hamilton Street and Brittin Street, police said.

During the arrest, police said the indiviuals were allegedly found to be in possession of items taken during the burglaries and were transported to Madison Police Headquarters for criminal processing. The juvenile was released to a parent pending his court appearance. Lewis was remanded to the Morris County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail with no 10 percent option.

The suspects are believed to be linked to approximately 40 car burglaries since May, police said. The investigation found that most of the vehicles were either unlocked or had items such as GPS units or cell phones in plain view, police said. The items taken during the most recent burglaries have been identified and will be returned to their owners, police said.

The police reminded residents to lock their vehicles and remove any valuables, if possible.
