Elizabeth resident found with Colt .45-caliber handgun in his glove compartment, according to report.
An Elizabeth man who told officers he was lost trying to find a friend's house to surprise her with a Valentine's Day rose was found hiding a handgun in his glove compartment during a motor vehicle stop early Friday morning, Madison Police said.
Adalberto Gonzalez-Nunez, 26, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, improper safety glass and failure to display a front license plate.
According to Lt. Joseph Cirella, Sgt. James Cavezza and Officer Bart Glab pulled over a grey BMW with tinted windows on Lathrop Avenue at about 12:30 a.m. Friday.
The officers noticed the driver, Gonzalez-Nunez, was "overly nervous" and failed to make eye contact when they spoke to him about the violation and to gather his credentials, Cirella said.
Gonzalez-Nunez told the officers he was looking for his friend's vehicle on a nearby street to leave a surprise Valentine's Day rose on the car, Cirella said. However, Gonzalez-Nunez was unable to tell the officers where she lived, Cirella said.
The officers became further suspicious and while trying to confirm the man's story, Gonzalez-Nunez admitted he had a Colt .45-caliber handgun in the glove compartment, Cirella said.
Gonzalez-Nunez was charged is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
