Police Blotter: Woman Gave Police False Name

Police originally stopped car she was a passenger in for a motor vehicle violation.

On April 7, police arrested Maria Amador, 44 of Newark, N.H., and charged her with hindering apprehension. Police initially stopped a motorist for a motor vehicle violation that Amador was a passenger in. A computer check on Amador determined she was providing a false name. She was transported to headquarters for processing. After processing she was released pending a court appearance.

On April 6, police arrested Michele Rivera, 37 of Plainfield, and charged her with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police initially stopped Rivera for a motor vehicle violation. It was determined she was in possession of Narcotics. She was transported to headquarters for processing. After processing she was released pending a court appearance. Rivera was also issued motor vehicle summonses for obstructed view and driving with a suspended driver's license.

On April 6, police arrested Marquese Jones, 19 of Madison, and charged him with possession of marijuana. Police initially stopped Jones for being on private property. He determined that he was in possession of narcotics. He was transported to headquarters for processing. After processing he was released pending a court appearance.

On April 6, police arrested Leonard Smith, 43, and Dawn Roncone, 34, both of Pocono Summit, Pa., and charged them with possession of a schedule 1 narcotic, intent to distribute narcotics, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police initially stopped Smith for a motor vehicle violation. It was determined they were in possession of narcotics. They were transported to headquarters for processing. After processing they were both transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 bail set by Judge Troxell. Smith was also issued motor vehicle summonses for maintenance of lamps and driving with a suspended driver's license.

On April 7, police arrested Andy Benviden, 21 of West New York, and charged him with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police were called by Drew University Public Safety officers who determined Benviden was in possession of narcotics. He was transported to headquarters for processing. After processing he was released pending a mandatory court appearance. Benviden is a Drew student.

On April 7, police arrested Claratosh Mathis, 39 of Morristown, on the strength of a $155 dollar traffic warrant. Police ran a computer check on Mathis and were alerted there was an active warrant for her. She was transported to headquarters for processing. She was released pending a court appearance in Morristown Municipal court.

On April 8, police arrested Nicholas Sharif, 23 of Chatham, and charged him with possession of drug paraphernalia. Police initially stopped Sharif for a motor vehicle violation. It was determined he was in possession of drug paraphernalia. He was transported to headquarters for processing. After processing he was released pending a court appearance. Sharif was also issued a motor vehicle summons for driving while using a cell phone.

On April 11, police arrested James Griffiths, 22 of Madison, on the strength of a $240 dollar traffic warrant. Police ran a computer check on his license plate and were alerted there was an active warrant for him. He was transported to headquarters for processing. After processing he was released pending a court appearance in Harding Township municipal court.

The Madison Police Department and Volunteer Corps responded to 22 medical emergencies during the past week. The police department investigated 12 motor vehicle crashes during the same time period.
