Police Blotter: Newark Pair Arrested in Alleged Stolen Vehicle

Driver also charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, while passenger also charged with possession of a weapon.

The Madison Police Department and Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to 24 medical emergencies during the week. The Madison Police Department also investigated six motor vehicle crashes during the week.

On Dec. 4, police arrested Kevin Creech, 30, and Chesa Smith, 28, both of Newark. Police on patrol ran a computer check on the vehicle Smith was driving. Police were alerted that the vehicle was reported stolen by the Newark Police Department. Police pulled the vehicle over and arrested Creech and Smith. They were both transported to headquarters for processing. Creech was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of marijuana under 50 grams, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Smith was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of a weapon. Both were transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility. Bail was set for Creech at $20,000 and at $10,000 for Smith. Creech was also wanted by the Essex County Sheriff's Office for failure to appear on drug charges.

On Dec. 1, police arrested Gary Hinton, 39 of East Orange, for burglary. Police responded to 44 Main Street on a report from the store owner that a burglary had just occurred. Police conducted an investigation, and then arrested Hinton. Hinton was transported to headquarters for processing and remanded to the Morris County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000.

On Dec. 1, police arrested 24-year-old Kristen Smith of Sayre, Pa., and 27-year-old Vince Desivo of Waverly, N.Y., while they were driving on Route 24. After pulling the pair over police determined Smith was driving while under the influence of a narcotic. She was arrested and transported to headquarters for processing. The passenger of the vehicle, Desivo, was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and being under the influence of a control dangerous substance. A records check on Desivo discovered he was wanted by Pennsylvania authority's for a parole violation. He was transported to Morris County Correctional Facility on $10,000 bail. Smith was issued a summons for driving under the influence, careless driving, and an equipment violation. She was release to a family friend pending a court appearance.

On Dec. 3, police arrested Michael Frohlich, 65 of Fair Lawn, on the strength of a $165 warrant. Police ran a computer check after stopping Frohlich and were alerted to the outstanding warrant and the fact Frohlich's driver's license was suspended. Frohlich was arrested and transported to headquarters for processing. After posting bail he was released pending a court appearance.

On Dec. 4, police arrested Peter Halasz, 23 of Summit, on the strength of a $250 warrant. Halasz was arrested and transported to headquarters for processing. After posting bail, Halasz was released pending a court appearance.  

On Dec. 5, police arrested Corey Coleman, 46 of Springfield, and charged him with driving while intoxicated. Coleman was initially stopped by police for an equipment violation. Police determined Coleman was intoxicated. Coleman was transported to headquarters for processing. Coleman was also charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released to a friend pending a court appearance.

On Dec. 5, police arrested Kevin Mooney, 23 of Budd Lake, and charged him with driving while intoxicated. Mooney was initially stopped by police  for failure to signal. Mooney was then arrested and transported to headquarters for processing. He was released to a friend pending a court appearance.

On Dec. 7, police arrested Jessica Moore, 20 of Summit, and charged her with driving while intoxicated, careless driving, and driving with an open container of alcohol while operating a motor vehicle. Moore was transported to headquarters for processing. Moore was released to a friend pending a court appearance.
