Police Blotter: Man Damaged Chimneys He was Supposed to Fix

Police asking residents to call them if they were victim of scam.

On July 30, police arrested Paul Katz, 46 of Red Bank, and charged him with theft by deception, fraud, forgery, and criminal mischief. Police determined that Katz was arriving at homes to do chimney work and would give the homeowner false information on what needed to be repaired to their home. He would also cause damage to the chimney and show the homeowner a photo of the damage to falsely charge the homeowner more money. He was transported to headquarters for processing. After processing he was taken to the Morris County Correctional Facility in lieu of $20,000 bail pending a mandatory court appearance. Katz was operating an older model green Dodge van with ladders on the roof. He goes by the name of Central Maintenance. Anyone who has had Katz or Central Maintenance do work to their home can contact Detective Ed Mitchko at 973-593-3076. Detective Paul Kosakowski and Patrolman Mirabella assisted in the investigation.

On July 31, police arrested Skender Bruncaj, 46 of Florham Park and charged him with driving under the influence. Police initially stopped Burucaj for a motor vehicle violation. It was determined that he was operating his vehicle under the influence of alcohol. He was transported to headquarters for processing. After processing he was release to a friend pending a mandatory court appearance. Bruncaj was also issued motor vehicle summons for driving while on a cell phone, failure to maintain a lane, and careless driving.

On August 2, police arrested Otis Jones, 36 of Dover, on the strength of a $7,500 dollar arrest warrant issued by Trenton Municipal Court. Police were called to a verbal disturbance that Jones was involved in. Police ran a computer check on his name and were alerted that there was a warrant for his arrest. He was transported to headquarters for processing. After processing he was transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility in lieu of bail pending a mandatory court appearance in Trenton Municipal Court.

The Madison Police Department, Fire Department and Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to approximately 20 medical emergencies during last week. The police department investigated nine motor vehicle crashes during the same period.
