Police Blotter: Man Altered Price of $693 Bottle of Wine

Elmwood Park resident arrested for shoplifting at liquor store.

On Sept. 28, police arrested Joseph Catalano, 25 of Elmwood Park, and charged him with shoplifting from a local liquor store. Police conducted a month-long investigation and determined that Catalano had committed shoplifting by altering the price of a $693 bottle of wine. Catalano was processed at police headquarters, and after processing, he was released pending a mandatory court appearance.

On Oct. 1, police arrested Christopher Baker, 61, of Madison, and charged him with driving while under the influence. Police were initially called to the parking lot of Quick Chek on Main Street on a report of a person who fell and then entered a vehicle. It was determined Baker was operating his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Baker was processed and released pending mandatory court appearance.

On Oct. 1, police arrested James Reed, 33, of Jersey City, on the strength of a Madison Municipal Warrant for failure to appear in court. Police were contacted by the Union Township Police Department, which had Reed in custody. He was processed and transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility in lieu of $1,000 bail, pending a mandatory court appearance.

The Madison Police Department, Fire Department and Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to approximately 16 medical emergencies during last week. The police department investigated three motor vehicle crashes during the same period.
