Cops: Man Arrested After Assault at Quick Chek

The following arrest information was supplied by the Madison Police Department. It does not indicate convictions.

on Sunday arrested a Middlesex County man wanted in connection with an alleged assault at a local convenience store.

Austin Sykes, 22, of Fords, was arrested by Ptl. James Cavezza and charged with aggravated assault. Cavezza had been contacted by an individual who said Sykes approached him as he exited the store at 233 Main St., then punched him in the face, police said in a statement. The victim was treated at a local hospital and released, according to the statement.

Police did not say why the assault occurred. 

Cavezza conducted an investigation and determined that Sykes committed the alleged assaulted. After obtaining an arrest warrant, Cavezza was contacted by the Woodbridge Police Department, which had Sykes in custody. He was transported to Madison for processing and lodged in the Morris County Correctional Facility after failing to post $10,000 bail, pending a mandatory court appearance. Sgt. Joe Cirella assisted with the investigation.
