Pfizer Building Evacuated After Fire Fills Gym With Smoke

Blaze started in dryer, chief says.

The Pfizer offices at 5 Giralda Farms were evacuated Friday morning after a fire started in a dryer and filled part of the building with smoke, Madison's fire chief said.

The fire started in the Pfizer gym's laundry room around 10:40 a.m. and filled the workout and adjoining areas with smoke, Fire Chief Lou DeRosa said. A sprinkler went off in the laundry room and Madison firefighters extinguished the blaze.

The entire building was evacuated for about an hour while it was ventilated and the sprinkler system was turned back on, DeRosa said.

He said no one was injured.

Florham Park and Morris Township fire departments assisted at the scene and the Chatham Fire Department covered Madison's firehouse until Madison finished around 12:15 p.m. The Madison Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Madison Police assisted us at the scene, DeRosa said.
