Passing Motorist Alerts Police of Alleged Drunken Driver

Madison resident charged with DWI, leaving the scene of an accident and other offenses.

A passing motorist alerted an officer of an apparent drunken driver who left the scene of an accident, police said.

Bradley Gibbs, 41, of Madison, was charged with driving while intoxicated, careless driving, failure to report an accident and leaving the scene of an accident.

According to police, a motorist flagged down Officer Kevin Boone of a man, later identified as Gibbs, who was allegedly driving drunk at about 9 a.m. on May 15.

Boone investigated the allegation and stopped Gibbs for a motor vehicle violation, according to police. The police report did not indicate where the stop took place.

Officers determined Gibbs had been involved in an accident prior to the stop and was under the influence of alcohol, police said.

Gibbs was charged and released on his own recognizance pending a court appearance.
