Truck Veers Off Park Ave., Strikes Utility Pole

Road reopened at about midnight after repairs.

A stretch of Park Avenue in Madison was closed in both directions all of Monday after a truck hit a utility pole near Danforth Road shortly after midnight.

A black 1997 GMC four-door was traveling north when it left the road and broke the pole, Madison police Lt. Joseph Cirella said.

The road reopened around midnight Monday.

The driver, Jeffrey Weeks, 51, of Union was not injured in the crash, Cirella said. Weeks was issued a summons for careless driving, he said.

Police asked motorists to avoid the area if possible and sent an alert at about 7 a.m. Monday saying Park Avenue was closed between Cedar Avenue and Danforth Road.

Patrolman Vincent Dellavalle responded to the accident, and Verizon and Madison Electric were called to set a new pole and transfer the lines. Repairs continued throughout Monday, Cirella said.

Officers assisted with a detour on surrounding streets, and no major traffic delays were reported.
