Newark Man Accused of Killing Madison Resident Dies in Jail

Michael Wilkins, 58, had been charged in the strangulation death of Jimmy Emporellis.

A Newark man who was being held for the killing of a Madison resident died in jail earlier this month.

Michael Wilkins, 58, died of natural causes on March 14 while being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility pending his arraignment, according to NJ.com.

Wilkins was charged earlier this month with murder for the death of Jimmy Emporellis.

Emporellis, 34, who was the owner of a Madison-based construction company, was found strangled in the back of his car on South 10th Street in Newark on Feb. 24. Emporellis had been reported missing earlier in February.
