Neighborhood Watch Tip Leads to Drug Arrest

DUI charge for driver after utility pole near-miss, and more, from the blotter.

An early-morning near-miss on Main Street led to charges for a Fairfield man.

On Aprl 10 at 5:47 a.m., Ptl. James C. Cavezza arrested Dae Kim, 30, and charged him with driving under the influence.

Cavezza initially stopped Kim for a motor vehicle violation on Main Street near Division Avenue after he observed Kim’s vehicle nearly strike a utility pole, police said.

After stopping Kim, the officer determined that he was allegedly operating his vehicle under the influence of alcohol, police said. Kim was transported to headquarters for processing and released to a family member pending a mandatory court appearance. Kim was also issued a motor vehicle summons for careless driving, police said.

On April 7 at 9:47 p.m., Ptl. Ken Shannon arrested Frank Login, 24, of Whiting. He charged him possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Shannon initially stopped Login on Main Street to check his proof of age after he made an alcohol purchase, police said. He determined he was allegedly in possession of marijuana, police said. Login was transported to headquarters for processing and released pending a mandatory court appearance.

At 12:45 a.m. on April 6, Ptl. Paul Papamarkos arrested Matthew Garbin, 20, of Clarks Summit, Pa., and charged him with possession of drug paraphernalia. Papamarkos initially was checking on a suspicious parked vehicle on Rosemont Avenue called in by Neighborhood Watch, police said. He determined that Garbin was allegedly in possession of a pipe used for narcotics, police said. He was transported to headquarters for processing and released pending a mandatory court appearance.

On April 5 at 9:30 p.m., Ptl. Cavezza arrested Andrew Coe, 18, of Chatham. He charged him with underage possession of alcohol and purchasing alcohol beverages under the legal age.

Cavezza initially observed Coe exit Rose City Liquors at 84 Main St. after allegedly purchasing alcohol, police said. He determined he was under 21 and was in possession of alcohol, police said.

An investigation also determined that employee Pravinkum Savalia allegedly sold the alcohol to Coe, police said. Coe was transported to headquarters for processing and released pending a mandatory court appearance. Savalia was issued a summons for selling alcoholic beverage to an underage person. Ptl. Mike Minni assisted with the arrest.

Also on April 5 at 4:14 p.m., Ptl. Craig Perrelli arrested Eric Klemp, 21, and 23-year-old Oleg Stoul, both of Montville. He charged them with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Perrelli initially observed an occupied vehicle in the Stop & Shop parking lot at 127 Main St.

He determined that they were both allegedly in possession of narcotics, police said. They were both transported to headquarters for processing and released pending a mandatory court appearance. Ptl. Shannon and the Morris County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit assisted with the arrest.

The , , and responded to 15 medical emergencies during the week.

The police investigated five motor vehicle crashes during the week.
