Tropical Storm Sandy damaged the roof of Lake Hiawatha School in Parsippany and many other homes in the area were damaged by falling trees. The widespread damage and outages led many school districts to close schools Wednesday and postpone Halloween trick-or-treating.

Jersey Central Power & Light said the damage was the worst in its history and has told some towns it could take seven to 10 days to have power restored.
