Resident Scares Off Burglar Trying to Enter Unlocked Car

Incident happened last week on Prospect Place.

A man caught entering an unlocked car in a Prospect Place driveway last week fled when a resident shouted at him, Madison police said.

The resident reported the motor vehicle burglary at about 1:30 a.m. Sept. 30, police said in a news release.

The resident told police the man pulled up in a dark Infiniti and tried entering the three cars in the driveway.

The first two cars were locked, but the third vehicle, a silver 2005 Chrysler four-door, was not. 

The resident saw the man inside the vehicle and shouted at him, at which point the man got out of the car, entered the passenger-side of the Infiniti he arrived in, and drove off.

The suspect was described as wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and possibly a mask. Anyone with information can call Detective Lt. Dennis Lam at 973-593-3012.
