Man Beaten in Dispute Outside Dunkin' Donuts, Cops Say
Boonton resident charged with simple assault after another man allegedly confronted his wife, spit on his vehicle.
A Boonton resident struck another man in the head and face for arguing with his wife and spitting on his vehicle outside Dunkin' Donuts, Madison Police said.
Edward Harding, 53, was charged with simple assault after the incident on Main Street Nov. 3 at about 7 p.m., according to a report released by Acting Police Chief Darren Dachisen.
According to the report, Harding and his wife stopped in traffic to let several individuals cross the street near the Dunkin' Donuts. A "minor confrontation" took place, the report said.

While Harding went inside the Dunkin' Donuts, one of the males who crossed the street went up to Harding's vehicle and confronted his wife, the report said.
After the exchange with Harding's wife, the man allegedly spit on the vehicle, the report said.

Harding witnessed the incident, came outside and "struck the male several times in the head and face causing injury," the report said.
Harding was released on his own recognizance pending a court appearance.
