Madison Police Make Three DUI Arrests

Underage alcohol possession leads to charges against three others.

The Madison Police Department made three DUI arrests and charged three others were charged in connection with underage possesion of alcohol, police said.

On Sunday at 12:20 a.m., Ptl. Paul Papamarkos of the arrested John Fleming, 18, of Florham Park, and charged him with driving under the influence. Papamarkos initially stopped Fleming for a motor vehicle equipment violation on Community Place, police said. He determined that he was allegedly operating his vehicle under the influence of alcohol, police said. He was transported to headquarters for processing and released to a friend pending a mandatory court appearance. Fleming was also issued a summons for failure to maintain lamps. 

Also on Friday, at 9:19 p.m., Ptl. James Cavezza arrested Benjamin Birney, 22, of Rocky Point, N.Y., Codi Scarpello, 20, of Green Village, and Nicole Adamakis, 20, of Morristown. He charged Adamakis and Scarpello with underage possession of alcohol and Birney with purchasing alcohol for persons under age. Cavezza initially stopped Birney in a parking lot next to Gary’s Wine & Marketplace for acting suspiciously, police said. The three were transported to headquarters for processing and released pending mandatory court appearances.

On Friday at 2:49 a.m., Iossa arrested Jurgen Odenius, 48, of Washington, and charged him with driving under the influence. Iossa had stopped Odenius on Route 24 for a traffic violation and subsequently determined that he was allegedly operating his vehicle under the influence of alcohol, police said. Odenius was transported to headquarters for processing. After processing he was released pending a mandatory court appearance. Odenius was also issued a summons for failure to maintain a lane.

On Wednesday at 11:56 a.m., Sgt. Pete Iossa of the Madison Police Department arrested Catalina Vargas, 21, of Morristown, and charged her with driving under the influence. Iossa initially stopped Vargas for a speeding violation on Madison Avenue. He determined that she was allegedly operating her vehicle under the influence of alcohol, police said. Vargas was transported to headquarters for processing and released to a family member pending a mandatory court appearance. Vargas was also issued a motor vehicle summons for speeding.
