Authorities say Jimmy Emporellis was likely targeted in Monday morning incident.

A 34-year-old Madison man was killed Monday morning in what was likely a targeted incident in Newark, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said.

Jimmy Emporellis was found unresponsive in a car parked in the 600 block of South 10th Street shortly before 10 a.m. Monday, the prosecutor's office said Tuesday evening.

Emporellis was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:34 a.m. Monday.

"The investigation is active and ongoing but it does not appear to be a random crime," according to the prosecutor's office statement.

No further information regarding the incident was immediately available.

Anyone with information can contact the Essex County Prosecutor's Office at 877-847-7432.

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated Emporellis was shot. However, the manner of death has not been released by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

Sad. There is a Home Depot in that particular part of Newark. And it isn't such a bad neighborhood. Sorry he died so young.
