Madison Drivers in Three-Car Chatham Accident

Chatham man leaves scene, gets summons.

Two Madison residents were involved in a three-car accident Tuesday morning on Main Street in Chatham, Chatham Borough Police said.

Patrolman Andrew Chase responded to a multi-car accident on Main Street near Garden Avenue at 8:22 a.m., police said.

A total of three cars were involved in an accident that occurred in the eastbound lane, according to police.

Police said that Nancyann Roberts, 56, of Madison, was attempting to stop her 2000 Mercury when her foot slipped off the brake. She struck a 2007 Toyota driven by Joann Burke, 64, of Madison, which was then pushed into a 2006 Honda driven by Thomas Ercolano Jr., 61, of Chatham, police said.

Prior to the arrival of police, Eroclano left the scene of the accident, stating that he had to drop off the vehicle to his wife at another location, police said. He eventually returned to the scene, according to police.

Ercolano was issued two summonses for leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident, police said.

The Burke and Roberts vehicles were towed from the scenes, according to police.

The Chatham Emergency Squad and Chatham Borough Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene.

Ercolano was also that resulted in no summonses issued.
