Lt. Dachisen Appointed Acting Madison Police Chief

Lt. Darren Dachisen was appointed acting chief of the Madison Police Department at the Borough Council meeting on Wednesday.

Dachisen, the patrol commander and highest ranked officer in the department, had been designated as the officer in charge by the previous acting chief, Jerry Mantone, who retired last week and was honored at the meeting.

At its next meeting, the governing body is expected to introduce an ordinance formally outlining the process for promoting a permanent chief. The promotion would not go into effect until retired Chief John Trevena has used accrued sick and vacation time through Feb. 1.

Mayor Bob Conley thanked Dachisen, who was at the meeting, for taking leadership of the department. Members of the audience, including Madison police officers, applauded.

Dachisen was hired in 1992 and promoted to sergeant in 2002, then lieutenant in 2007, according to his bio on the Police Department website. He attended West Point Leadership and Command School, FBI Command Institute for Law Enforcement Executives, SWAT Command School, Northwestern University Law Enforcement Supervision and other training programs, the website says.

He also is deputy coordinator of the Office of Emergency Management and his hobbies include weightlifting, old cars and motorcycles.
