For the Record, Boro Honors 9/11 1st Responders

Ten years later, recognition for Madison emergency personnel who answered the call.

It may have been the 10th anniversary of 9/11-plus-one-day, but Mayor Mary-Anna Holden made sure Madison's emergency personnel who responded a decade ago were officially recognized at the Borough Council meeting on Monday.

The first responders were honored as the borough swore in volunteer firefighters Robert Fissel and Christopher Killeen as members of the 's Hook & Ladder Co. No. 1.

–Madison Fire Chief Lou DeRosa and now-retired Police Department Sgt. D.J. Brightley, members of a state task force who were deployed to the World Trade Center on 9/11. "They did not return to Madison or their families for nine days," Holden noted;

–From the : Edward Schmeltz; Henry George; Jack Luts; Bob Landrigan and Kevin DeBiasse, who responded on 9/11 and were stationed in Weehawken and treated survivors as they were brought in by ferry. Landrigan and Corps member Meg Numata also responded five days later and were stationed in lower Manhattan;

–From the : Frank Wulff, Carmen DeCaro,   John Trevena, Wayne Reed, Chris Keller, Darren Dachisen and Ed Mitchko were en route to New York City but were recalled by the state of New Jersey.
