Elderly Man's Mustang Crashes Into Madison Pet Store

78-year-old said his foot slipped off the brake when he was trying to park outside Pet Valu on Tuesday, police said.

A 78-year-old man's foot slipped off the brake pedal and his vehicle accelerated into a Main Street pet store on Tuesday, Madison Police said.

Michael Garkawe was issued a summons for careless driving after his 2008 Ford Mustang struck the facade of Pet Valu at 235 Main St., police said.

According to police, Garkawe was pulling into a parking space when his foot slipped off the brake and hit the accelerator.

No people or animals were injured in the accident, which caused cosmetic damage but did not impact the structural integrity of the building, police said.
