Police: Man Clocked at 92 MPH, Charged With DUI

The following arrest information was supplied by the Madison Police Department. It does not indicate convictions.

Charges of driving under the influence and an outstanding arrest warrant appear on the blotter this week, along with the recovery of a car stolen in the borough.

On Oct. 2 at 3:29 a.m., Sgt. Peter Iossa arrested 24-year-old Yoshimar Ortega of Morristown and charged him with driving under the influence. Iossa initially stopped Ortega on Route 24 for speeding, where he was allegedly traveling at 92 miles per hour in a 65-miles-per-hour zone. Iossa also determined that he was allegedly operating his vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Ortega was taken to headquarter for processing and released to a family member pending a mandatory court appearance. Ortega was also issued a summons for speeding.

On Sept. 29 at at 9:03 p.m., Ptl. Paul Papamarkos arrested Julius Boone, 49, of Memphis, Tenn., on the strength of a traffic warrant issued by Montville Township Municipal Court in the amount of $89. Papamarkos initially stopped Boone for a motor vehicle violation, and a computer check revealed the arrest warrant. Boone was booked at headquarters and released pending a mandatory court appearance in Montville. He was also issued a summons for careless driving

Police also reported that a vehicle stolen in Madison on Sept. 27 was recovered in Elizabeth on Sept. 30. The vehicle was stolen during the late night hours from the Garfield Avenue area. Det. Lt. Jerry Mantone and Det. Ed Mitchko responded to Elizabeth to recover the vehicle. An investigation is being conducted with the Elizabeth Police Dept. by Lt. Mantone.

The police, and responded to 22 medical emergencies during the week. Police investigated nine motor vehicle crashes in that time.
