Drunken Driver Hit Handicapped Parking Sign, Cops Say
Accident occurred in Stop & Shop parking lot.
A 56-year-old Madison man was charged with DUI after he struck a handicapped parking sign in the Stop & Shop parking lot, police said.
Kevin Carey was arrested at about 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, Detective Kenneth Shannon said in a news release.
Patrolman Carmine DeCaro and Sgt. Craig Perrelli responded to a report about the accident, and a witness told the officers the driver went into the store.

Carey was located in the store, and both officers smelled alcohol on his breath, according to police. DeCaro had Carey perform field sobriety tests and determined he was not able to operate a vehicle safely, police said.
Carey was charged with driving under the influence, driving under the influence within 1,000 feet of a school, and failure to report an accident, police said. He was released to a friend pending a court appearance.
