Drunken Driver Hit Utility Pole on Park Ave., Madison Cops Say

Second alleged DUI crash on Park Avenue reported this month.

A 58-year-old Florham Park woman was charged with DUI this month after she crashed into a utility pole on Park Avenue, Madison police said Wednesday.

Carol Mogavero was arrested around 12:30 p.m. Aug. 3 after police responded to the crash, which occurred near the intersection of Park Avenue and Chateau Thierry Avenue, Detective Kenneth Shannon said in a news release.

The incident preceded another alleged DUI on the same road weeks later. In the other incident, a man was arrested Aug. 14 after police said he drunkenly careened down the road, hitting curbs, signs, bushes and a parked car.

Police said Mogavero allegedly was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and had alcoholic beverages and prescription pills with her when she struck the utility pole. She was not injured in the crash, police said.

Patrolman Matthew Mirabella charged Mogavero with driving under the influence, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to maintain Lane, having a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, two counts of knowingly possessing a controlled dangerous without a valid prescription, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance not in a prescribed container, police said.
