Dead Body Found in Morris County Library Parking Lot

Foul play not suspected as multiple agencies investigate man's death, prosecutor says.

A man's dead body was found in a car in the parking lot of the Morris County Library in Hanover Township, Acting Prosecutor Fredric Knapp said Thursday.

Knapp said the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, the Morris County Park Police, the Hanover Township Police Department, the Morris Township Police Department and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the death.

Knapp said the man's identity is being withheld pending positive identification and family notification. He added that the probe is in its preliminary stage and foul play did not appear to be a factor.

The prosecutor's office said it would not release any further information—including news on when the body was found—until the medical examiner completes an autopsy of the body.

Library Director Lynn Oliver said the investigation was cleared by the time she arrived for work and that the library is open as usual, until 9 p.m. Oliver said she expects patrons will ask about the incident throughout the day as more hear about it, but said that the prosecutor's office is the agency that can offer additional information.
