Cops: Driver in 3-Car Accident Was Drunk, On Phone
A 29-year-old New Vernon man was charged with DUI and using a cell phone while driving, authorities said.
A driver involved in a three-car accident at Loantaka Way and Woodland Road was charged with allegedly driving drunk and using a cell phone while driving, police said.
Michael Principe, 29, of New Vernon was arrested by Patrolman Vincent Dellavalle at 9:32 p.m. on June 7 and charged with DUI after Dellavalle responded to the scene of the accident and conducted an investigation, according to a news release.
Principe also was issued motor vehicle summonses for allegedly refusing to submit to a breath test, using a cell phone while driving and being an uninsured motorist, police said.

Principe was processed at police headquarters and released to a family member pending a court appearance, according to police. Sgt. Dennis Lam assisted with the arrest, police said.
No injuries were reported as a result of the accident, police said.
