Audi Stolen from Madison Street Recovered in Newark

No suspects in vehicle theft.

The today said that a vehicle stolen from a borough street has been recovered.

The 2012 gray Audi A6 was recovered on Jan. 24 by Madison's detective bureau in Newark, on Hunterdon Street, according to Madison Police Chief John Trevena.

The auto was brought back to the Public Safety Complex for processing by the Morris County Sheriffs Office. The vehicle has since been returned to the owner, Trevena said.

The car was taken the night of Jan. 19-20.

"Our detectives got a call from a South Orange detective who was in the area on an unrelated investigation," Trevena said in an email to Patch. "He noticed the car, ran the plate [through a background check] and gave us a call."

Trevena said no arrests were made in the theft and there are no suspects at this time.

Police have warned residents to lock their cars when parking overnight.
