Apartment Fire Not Considered Suspicious, Authorities Say

Blaze burned away roof of Madison Manor Apartments.

Authorities do not believe a three-alarm fire that burned away the roof of a vacant apartment building on Green Village Road this week is suspicious, Madison's fire chief said Thursday.

Madison police and fire officials and the Morris County Prosecutor's Office on Wednesday investigated the cause of the massive fire at Madison Manor Apartments.

The insurance company still plans to conduct its own investigation and no final conclusions have been reached, Fire Chief Lou DeRosa said.

The three-story building was undergoing renovations and open houses for new units were scheduled later this month.

A neighbor saw flames at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday and called 9-1-1. Flames were through the roof when the Madison Fire Department arrived, and the department called on 10 area fire departments for help over the course of the night. It took two-and-a-half hours to get the fire under control. No one was injured.
