Services Friday for Brooke Healey

Guests welcome at Grand Summit Hotel after interment at St. Teresa in Summit.

Brooke Healey will be laid to rest Friday.

Brooke, 5, of New Providence died Monday after a battle with a rare brain tumor, diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma.

A short church service will be held at Our Lady of Peace Church, 111 South St., New Providence, at 10 a.m. Friday, said Brooke's parents, Steve and Stefani, in an online journal that chronicled Brooke's struggle.

Brooke will be interred at the mausoleum at St. Teresa of Avila Parish, 306 Morris Ave., Summit.

In lieu of a wake, Steve and Stefani Healey welcome "all who follow Brooke's website" to the Grand Summit Hotel, 570 Springfield Ave., Summit, from noon to 4 p.m.

The greater community had rallied around Brooke in recent months, including people in Madison, where Steve Healey is a teacher and coach.

Family friends, current and former students, coworkers and businesses in the borough helped organize fundraisers and shows of support for Brooke and her family since Brooke's diagnosis in January, including bracelet sales, bowling outings and an event at the Madison Community Pool.

A candlelight vigil was held in New Providence in August, and motorcyclists were  among the many groups to raise money for her plight.

A moment of silence was held in honor of Brooke at the start of the Madison Borough Council meeting on Monday.
