Former Madison Councilman Don Links Dies

Coach, father championed Madison Recreation Center.

Former Madison Councilman Don Links, who was known for championing the creation of a new synthetic turf recreation complex in the borough, died over the weekend.

Links was battling ALS and bowed out of his re-election campaign this fall, but continued to serve the remainder of his three-year term on the governing body. He was honored with proclamations in December at the last Borough Council meeting of 2012.

Visiting hours are scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home in Madison, according to the funeral home website. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Grace Episcopal Church in Madison. Interment is private.

Links said being diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a progressive neurodegenerative disease also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, gave him a "narrow time frame" he knew he had to use to get things done. At the end of his term, he said was looking forward to enjoying his time with his children.
