Madison H.S. Baseball Team Riding 3-Game Winning Streak
Dodgers are sitting at 8-3 this season.
This past weekend Madison celebrated its 60th year of Little League play with the parade of little leaguers and the official ribbon cutting ceremony at the Madison Recreation Center. The annual little league parade is a great tradition in Madison and it was not too long ago that most of the current Madison High School varsity
baseball players were in their little league uniforms marching down Central
Avenue. There may not be any parades for the Dodger baseball team, but there is certainly much to celebrate. The Dodgers are currently enjoying a three-game
winning streak with wins over Chatham, Dover and a weekend win over Boonton in the preliminary round of the Morris County Tournament.
In the 14-7 win over Chatham, Mike Wallace fanned six and went the distance for his third win of the year. Everyone including Jim Higgins scored in this game but the biggest contributor was was first baseman, Joe Grato. Grato hit for the cycle and had five RBIs. Also factoring into the offensive explosion were John Costa and Cameron Dias. Costa went 3-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored and Dias was 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
Against Boonton, the Dodgers threatened in each inning but managed only one run through regulation. Luke Peglau scored the first run for the Dodgers in the fourth inning and Dover tied it up in the sixth. After walking Dilan Klug and giving up a single to Connor Higgins, Dover intentionally walked Dias to pitch to John
Costa. Costa, sporting a new, stylish hair style, beat out an infield hit to score Klug and give the Dodgers a tough 2 – 1 win. Higgins went the distance racking up 10 Ks and scattering six hits.

To round out the winning streak, the Dodgers pounded the Dover Tigers 14–3. Connor Higgins caused most of the destruction with two home runs and seven RBIs in the second inning. Yes, all in the second inning! The seven RBIs in one inning broke a team record set in 1981 by Scott Spelker. Sean Bradley and Joey Geyer each had two hits and scored three runs. The recipient of all the run support was Michael Wallace. Wallace improved his record to 4–1 and was appreciative of his team’s run support. Following the game Wallace said, “It was a great team win and, after we scored all those runs in the second inning, even the Mets could not have given up that lead.”
The 8–3 Dodgers play host to Parsippany on April 25 at 4 p.m.
