Riding the wave of a 3-0 start to its regular season, the Madison Volleyball team upset three teams in the Star Ledger State Top 20 Volleyball Poll by knocking off Number 3 Demarest, Number 12 Ridge, and Number 19 Bridgewater-Raritan in the Northern Valley Invitational Tournament on Saturday, September 15th. Held at Demarest High School, the Northern Valley Invitational featured 9 of the Top 20 teams in New Jersey to go along with other Bergen County powers such as 2009 State Champion, Pascack Hills, who also fell to the Lady Dodgers on Saturday.
What started out as a sleepy, early morning 50 minute bus ride to northern Bergen County ended 10 hours later with a Silver Bracket Championship in New Jersey High School Volleyball’s most loaded tournament field & one of the best performances in program history. Aside from victories over the aforementioned ranked opponents, Madison also rang up wins against formidable competition in Cresskill and Ridgewood. In all, the Lady Dodgers notched 6 victories over opponents who have combined for 16 State Championships!!
Leading the charge for Madison were coaches Steve Fenton and Hector Martinez, along with Team Captains Kayla Fennelly, Jen Vorel, and Maddy Watson. The Dodger lineup also includes Juniors Olivia Alexander, Alise Bassolino, Mackie Goodwin, Maddie Hines, Kelly Quinn, and Margy Taylor & Sophomore, Ally Shahidi.
Madison returns to action this week with regular season matches at Parsippany and Dover; and heads back on the road on Saturday for another challenging tournament at Morris Knolls High School.
