MHS Soccer Celebrates Season and Honors Coach Chandler

Coaches, players and parents enjoyed an evening of 2012 MHS soccer highlights and honored the passing of MHS coach Robert "Bob" Chandler Nov. 19.

Madison Boys High School Soccer celebrated the 2012 season Monday, Nov 19 honoring longtime Madison high school coach Robert “Bob” Chandler, marking season highlights and looking toward next year’s challenges.

Varsity coach Frank Nunez said his team played with “character and class,“ often receiving accolades from opposing coaches. “They did their job,” Nunez added. “They ran with the best of them.” The team beat higher seeded Leonia 3-1 in the first round of the  NJSIAA North Jersey Section 2, Group 2 state championship and lost to Cliffside Park, 1-0 in the second round. The season record was 8-8-2.

The banquet program opened up with a short film commemorating Coach Chandler. Varsity awards included Most Valuable Player, Raz Leshem; Most Outstanding Defender, Alec Waksman; Most Outstanding Offender, Anton Benedikt; Most Improved Player, Sean Haughey and Coach’s Award, Tino Martirano.

TJ Mack, assistant Varsity coach, Sean Pauls, junior varsity coach and Christopher Edwards, freshman coach were on hand to introduce their players and give out certificates and letters. The high school program included 78 players.

About 200 coaches, parents and players attended the event held at Grace Episcopal Church. Businesses supporting MHS Soccer include Ace Greenhouses, Dorina’s Kitchen, Dunkin’ Donuts, F. Gerald New, Inc., Madison Elks Lodge 1465, Madison Pharmacy, Madison Soccer Club, Nautilus Diner, Nonna’s Italian Restaurant, Rosemary Dark Florals, The Printer’s Place, and Thompson Sporting Goods.
