Holiday Decorating Contest Winners Announced

Sparking and elegant displays, plus one with a 'Santa cactus,' among those recognized by Madison Chamber of Commerce.

The Madison Chamber of Commerce has announced the winners of its annual Outdoor Home Decorating Contest for 2013.

The residences and businesses lit up the neighborhoods with their festive lights, wreaths and holiday decorations, and once again impressed the judges with their creativity, according to a chamber news release.

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year,” said Peter Daniel of Rose City Collision. “This annual event is fun and it showcases the beauty of our neighborhoods and downtown business district.”

The Outdoor Home Decorating Contest is a traditional event that allows Chamber members to give back to their community and say thank you for supporting their businesses. 

The two grand prizes were awarded to the Arnstein family, 14 Noe Ave., and the Punola family, 210 Central Ave.  Each grand prize winner received a $100 Chamber of Commerce gift check, an engraved plaque and a sign for their front lawn.

Families also won awards within theme categories. The Smollen family, 125 Garfield Ave. won Most Elegant and the Zienowicz family, 152 Shunpike Rd. won Most Colorful.  The Lein family, 24 Anthony Dr. won Picture Perfect.  The Pagliuca family, 48 Knollwood Ave. won Most Creative.  The Torrani family, 19 Highland Rd. won Best Sparkling.  The Miller family, 30 Canterbury Rd. won the Best Storybook theme.  The Wickens family, 18 Glenwild Rd won Most Traditional and the Cucchiara family, 306 Woodland Rd. won Home for the Holidays.  The Sylva family, One Cross Gates won Most Tasteful and the Nugent family, 35 Lawrence Rd. won Winter Wonderland.  Each theme winner received a $25 Chamber of Commerce gift check, a certificate of acknowledgement and a sign to be placed on their property.

Honorable Mentions went to the Dixon family, 22 Shadylawn Dr., the Dunne family, 183 Kings Rd., the Haddad family, 10 Noe Ave., the Massey family, 18 Holden Ln., the Blair family, 8 Rosemont, the Salko family, 123 Greenwood Ave., the Rowe family, 25 Pine St., and the Murphy family, 118 Greenwood Ave.

Holiday decorating awards were also awarded to businesses: David’s Rumba Cafe, 6 Elmer St.; Cramers Carpet One, 73 Main St.; Rose City Jewelers & Gemologists, 1 Waverly Pl.; Gerlach’s Jewelers, 61 Main St.; Statements, 57 Main St.; Madison Pet Shop, 26 Main St.; Salvatore Minardi Salon, 8 Park Ave. and the Madison Pharmacy, 66 Main St.

The signs winners place on their properties were supported by The Provident Bank; Hair We Are, The Family Salon; Doodlebugz; Rose City Collision; JM Egan Wealth Advisors; Madison PhotoPlus; Stewart-Morris Awards, Gifts & Flags; House Doctors/Barba Builders; dtorr; Adams Dental; Cleaners Advantage; and Strategic Event Group.
